It's August 2011, Fantazzmo just finished up a great week with 5 shows in 7 days and I can't wait to do it again!
I heard somewhere that the Beatles played 1000 shows before anyone knew who they were. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but if it is, Fantazzmo better keep doing what we're doing. 1000 shows does sound about right, it may take that long for a good band to become great live.
Hendrix played the club circuits for years before being discovered by Chas Chandler and heading to England. Led Zeppelin were all accomplished musicians before coming together and exploding onto the music scene. Jimmy Page was a studio musician and a member of the Yardbirds before forming Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant had his various bands and a previous record deal while recording the first Zep cd. John Paul Jones was a studio musician and John Bonham was in various bands as well.
What's my point? All the greats played a lot of shows before they were known, it's all about honing your craft and constantly improving. Fantazzmo is made of four professional musicians that have been in various bands and have various recording experience, but we are constantly striving to improve our live sound, performance, rapport with the audience and reaching out to fans.
A band that is well rehearsed can get tight and great simply by rehearsals, but playing live is a completely different story. Being great live takes a more. There are many different facets to a live show, the sound of the room, your stage presence, lighting, your sound on stage, your sound in the audience, the sound man, the promoter, transportation, logistics & shelter, but most importantly, the audience.
There are so many things that can interfere with your actual performance, the more live shows you do, the better you get at avoiding, foreseeing and preventing problems from occurring. You get better with dealing with the outside issues that can interfere with your performance and of course you become a better performer.
If you're in a band, get out and play live as soon as everyone is comfortable and you feel your band is tight. If you're rehearsing the same material for six months and you have no shows lined up, you run the risk of burning yourself and everyone out.
Fantazzmo has a great September lined up. We have 9 shows scheduled so far and are adding shows daily for September and the rest of the year. We have to get the video for "I Know You're Mine" out really soon and end 2011 strong to get ready to have an AMAZING 2012.
Fantazzmo is coming your way really soon, and we're winning people over one by one. We're doing everything by word of mouth. We don't have ad campaigns, publicity, radio airplay, videos on rotation in any networks and we're doing this all independently. We are honing our craft, refining our sound, improving our live show and always meeting new people, getting to know the fans and thanking everyone for their support.
